Brought
to life when it is worn, the mask brings gods to earth. Conversely,
by masking himself, man affirms his identity as a social being. The
mask is at once human and non-human. It’s very
existence is to mediate between society, nature and the supernatural.
Claude Lévi-Strauss
Face painting is a universal art. Historically it has played
an important part in virtually every culture on earth. Our
skin is where we touch the world ~ face painting is a playful,
yet powerful way to transform both our identity and how others
respond to us.
I’ve been a Humboldt County resident since 1988. Having
a Masters Degree in Social Work, I’ve practiced as a Clinical
Social Worker for over 12 years. Currently I have a holistic
counseling & therapy practice in Eureka where I enjoy helping
others through prenatal & postpartum issues, life transitions,
grief & loss, stress management and trauma recovery. I
love being a mother and working with children of all ages.
As
an artist, face painting offers me a wonderful medium for creative expression:
a three-dimensional moving human canvas. It’s so inspiring for
me to see others light up with smiles when they see their transformation through
a face painting experience. It’s also exciting for those watching
to see the designs come to life. My passion is to give each person I’m
painting my full attention and strive to show them they ARE special. I
believe face painting is a fun, safe and empowering way to explore different
roles, moods and fantasies...at any age!
